What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Emma loves seeing the results of her dedication and hard work. Whether it be the solid outside kill, the effortless but impossible float-serve, or her signature deep-pocket top-spin serve… that feeling of accomplishment is unmatched when the ball hits the court on the other side. Confidence and excellence grow in those moments. Above winning and celebratory team chants is something else: her team. Emma loves her teammates and celebrates them as they grow together in sports and life.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Madisen Skinner is an inspiration for Emma. Madisen came into the sport of volleyball later than most, and has proved her excellence by achieving scholarships and playing for the US Women’s National Team. Her dedication has visible results, and she is proof that achieving goals is a mindset and commitment. It’s never luck. On and off the court, Skinner has maintained a persona that young athletes can aspire to follow for a balanced life.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

As a parent, there are so many. First, I’m proud she chose volleyball as her primary sport, because she can play anything and succeed! But volleyball is something we can share until my knees go out. Second, I’m proud that she’s chooses to be disciplined: she chooses to run in the mornings in summer to keep conditioning year-round. Last, I was proud when I went to her first middle-school game: Emma had a group of friends with signs cheering when she served. The community loves her too!
