What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Malachi loves the feeling of being part of something bigger than himself. He loves the competition, the excitement, and the challenge of pushing himself to become better. More than anything, he loves the friendships and brotherhood he builds with his teammates. Sports teach him discipline, teamwork, confidence, and how to keep going even when things get hard. Seeing his hard work pay off, making his teammates proud, and knowing he gave everything he had is truly special.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Daddy, Dustin Wood, is his biggest inspiration, both on & off the field. Dustin has been playing football since he was 4. Dustin has always encouraged him, believed in him, & taught him that hard work, dedication, and never giving up can take you far. Being his coach makes their bond even more special because he gets to learn from & grow with the person he looks up to most. He wants to make his daddy proud, & so much of what he loves about sports comes from the example his dad has set for him.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

The moment that makes me proudest isn’t one specific game, trophy, or big play. It’s watching him grow from a little boy into the young athlete he is today. I’m proud when I see him face challenges, get frustrated, fall short, and still choose to get back up and try again. Seeing him work hard for something he loves is a true blessing. His accomplishments make me proud, but watching sports teach him determination, resilience, humility, and how to be a good teammate makes my heart the proudest.
