Abel loves the friendships he has made through sports above all else. The bonds he has built with his hockey teammates and the other motocross kids are unique and unbreakable. They push each other to succeed on and off of the ice and the track. They cheer each other on and build each other up after a bad game or a tough race.
Abel is inspired by his dad. He demonstrates work ethic and grit every day, and gives Abel the tough love and the critical feedback to help him improve. He is at every hockey game and every race, serving as his mentor and his mechanic! He also shows him everything he needs to know about dirtbikes, so one day Abel can pass the knowledge on to his own kids! He works from sun up to sun down to make sure Abel has what he needs to be successful.
I was most proud of Abel the day that he taught a fellow rider how to hit a huge jump at a track they were racing at. Abel wanted his friend to succeed, so he showed him how to do it, even though his friend is his direct competition. It didn't matter to him that showing this kid how to do the jump could potentially cost him a win, he just wanted to share his knowledge and help a buddy. That's who he is as a person!
