What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

He loves the feel of the ball hitting the bat. And is passionate on how his swing is. He mainly loves the brotherhood that is formed during the season. Everyone plays a part and there is no I in team. He wants this to help him get a scholarship and be the first one in family to go to college. This love for baseball started when he was 2. Videos of him hitting the ball at age 2 with neighbors stopping because they couldn’t believe it. He also plays for his Uncle Mati who has cancer.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

He said his dad inspires him. He knows his dad didn’t have a father growing up. So his dad makes sure he spends every free time coaching him on how to get better. He knows his dad will always have his back. The constant pressure he has is always gone when he hears his dad’s voice to just do his best. After his first home run, he looked in the stands to see the proud look on his dad’s face. Also reminds him to do his best in school and respect everyone. No matter who they are. That inspires him

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

I had a parent come to me and ask if he was my son. She told me a story of her son being at baseball camp and making mistakes. The boys were laughing and telling him he sucked. She said my son walked out of the dug out and told them to leave him alone. No one was perfect. And then stood by her son and encouraged him to keep his head up. Without knowing, we ended up on his team. She said that meant the world to him and it also meant the world to her. not always about winning, it’s about that.
