Thank you for generously supporting Alexa in this year’s competition. Your support helps empower the V Foundation for Cancer Research and the Why Not You Foundation in their respective missions to save lives and empower today's youth to become tomorrow's leaders.
Alexa loves the thrill of competition. Her favorite place is on the mound, staring down the batter 60 ft away, and figuring out how to get the ball past his swinging bat. Or even better, seeing them lunge of out of the way of her curve ball, which then lands in the catcher's mitt for a called strike. She enjoys proving everyone wrong, knowing that they are often thinking that with a girl pitching, their team is going to crush the ball. Sometimes they do, but most of the time, they don't.
Alexa is inspired by the women of the AAGPBL, who played professional baseball in the 1940s. She has met some of these amazing women, such as Maybelle Blair, and they are strong, determined, and still even have some impressive skills, despite being well over 90 years old. She is inspired by all women who break gender barriers and work in areas dominated by men, such as pilots, surgeons, electricians. She still looks up to her mom, who was a collegiate rower and is now an orthopaedic surgeon.
We're proudest of Alexa's grit and perseverance, and continuing with the sport she loves, despite people telling her she doesn't belong. She has nerves of steel and we are amazed by her desire to come into any game no matter how intense the situation. Her final game this season, she came in to pitch with no outs, bases loaded. She threw 2 pitches, and got out of the inning with a triple play. She then pitched the final inning, 3 up, 3 down, ending the season with a strike out. She is fierce.
