For me, it's about everything that happens before the gun goes off, the early morning practices, the sore muscles, and the constant push to be better than I was yesterday. When you’re in high school, you learn fast that track is a mental game as much as a physical one. Sometimes, winning means hitting a new personal best, even if you don’t finish first. The fight to improve every time I step on the track gives me the fuel to get pushing myself to the next level.
When I think about what drives me in track, in school, in life one name always comes to mind: LeBron James. He’s more than just an incredible basketball player. To me, he’s proof of what’s possible when talent meets hard work, focus, and heart. LeBron didn’t grow up with much, but he never let that stop him. He stayed focused, stayed humble, and kept pushing. That’s something I really admire. He shows that success isn’t just about being gifted.
There are so many moments that make me proud as a parent. The most recent was this past year watching him led his team as captain. Watching him not just work on himself but encouraging his teammates to work hard and be the best they can be. Even when times got hard he was still there to support his teammates with positive reinforcement and continuous ways to help strengthen the team as a whole. He is always researching ways to help the entire team succeed it’s not just about him.
