What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Asaira has a growing passion for sports. Shes always trying new things and she even joined flag football this year. She is even making history by being apart of the first flag football team at Woodward Academy. But when I asked her why she answered with "sports have helped me grow, mentally and physically, its given me many life lessons that without doing sports, I never wouldve learned." I can count over the years how her love of track really portrayed her dedication to grow and inspire.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

I can recall the day when Asaira first asked me to run track. She was only 7 and had just finished watching her auntie compete on TV. I had never realized that sparkle in her eyes before. She also had that very same drive to succeed when her dad cheered her on and told her how proud he was. To this day she tells me how much her aunt and father inspired her and shes grateful that by just looking over at a screen it would unlock a new future of possibilities.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

There is not one moment in Asairas journey that outweights the rest. What makes me proud is how she continues to march on this path, how she continues to stay strong, and how she continues to keep going when things get tough. Im proud of her for staying determined and never letting the negativity around her reach her mind. No matter the battle, she always fights it head on. Even though she falls, that doesnt disappoint me one bit. But its when she gets back up, that's what makes me proud.
