What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

She plays basketball, flag football and competes in Track and field. High jump makes her feel like she’s flying which has been her dream since she was small. Basketball and football allow her to apply physical and mental strength in a different way than academics. We think Asha’s favorite thing about sports is her love for her team mates and coaches and the bond that a team creates.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

We believe Asha is inspired not by a specific person but can appreciate humans that overcome obstacles and work with unwavering determination regardless of whether that is on a court, field, classroom or job. Kindness, grit, compassion and humor inspire Asha. Asha is a very gifted athlete, but she does it because she loves it. Not for fame or acknowledgement, so we suspect that is why she doesn’t have a specific person (especially famous) that she looks up to.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Asha is a force on the football field, basketball court and on the track, she has won the season MVP and had an insane block in the final playoff game, but we can’t help but burst with pride when we think of the time Asha jumped off the bench 6 feet in the air when her team mate played in her last game of her high school career. She did not get much playing time. Coach put her in and she hit a three. Asha ran up and down the sidelines cheering. It was contagious.
