Ava loves the artistry and complexity of figure skating: how your whole entire body has to be in alignment for each moment to be perfect. She loves how you are able to create your own expression and interpretation of the music, the story, or the character. Ava also thrives with the variety of training required for her sport: weight lifting, jumping, stretching, strength and resistance Pilates, dance, and dramatic expression. Figure skating combines everything into a beautiful performance.
Ava is so inspired by Alysa Liu, who came back after having many mental blocks and won worlds. "She doesn't just focus on landing the jumps but artistry and creates the story. When you watch her you can understand she's having fun. She doesn't look forced or so focused that she isn't living in the moment."
Ava made the brave decision to skate on a team in a completely different state than where she lives. This required an extremely high level of commitment, excellent time management, and a LOT of travel time to keep her life rooted back home. The rigor of practices and fitness expectations increased dramatically. The travel became adventures. Nothing was easier, yet she was so much more motivated. Ava juggled it all with so much grace. She embraces challenge. No boundaries can stop her.
