You decide who will be named Youth Athlete of the Year, featured in a 3BRAND ad in Sports Illustrated, and take home $25,000
Ava describes karate as her therapy. When she has a bad day, she can focus and forget all of the chaos around her when she does karate. Karate has built Ava's strength both physically and mentally. She is focused on a healthy lifestyle as well as being the best competitor that she can be.
Ava is inspired by her coaches and by other competitors as well. Her coaches have shown her where she needs to be in the sport and have guided her there. They are generous but firm and she appreciates their dedication. Ava has many friends that do karate and she sees their daily struggles as well. She has learned that everyone has battles that they are fighting, but together they encourage each other to never give up, to talk about your struggles and keep moving forward.
Surprisingly, my proudest moments don't come with Ava winning another trophy or championship. My proudest moments are watching her cheer for her competitors or help another athlete that is having trouble. I am proud that she is passing on what she has learned to a new generation and that no matter how many awards she wins, she is a great person first.
