Avery loves swimming because it’s a unique sport that challenges her both individually and as part of a team. She enjoys building on each movement to glide through the water with speed, mastering how to move efficiently in an environment that offers constant resistance. For her, swimming is like no other sport—it’s a perfect blend of strength, skill, and teamwork.
Avery looks up to incredible swimmers like Riley Gaines for her strong advocacy for women’s sports, Katie Ledecky for her impressive distance swimming, and Gretchen Walsh for her amazing butterfly technique. They inspire Avery to work hard, stand up for what she believes in, and keep pushing her limits in the pool.
My proudest moment with Avery is watching her grow through determination and mindset. Each year, she set goals—from making the state relay team to competing in individual events. One year, she came so close to the podium in the 50 free at state but just missed it. Though she was sad, she kept working hard. She also realized that training her mindset was just as important. She set a goal to make podium in the 50 and 100 free! I’m proud say she received bronze medal in both!
