What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

For Beau, sports are pure joy. They’re not about winning or being the fastest—they’re about freedom, connection, and belonging. At just five years old, Beau has faced more than most do in a lifetime. Living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) means he’s spent more days in hospitals than on playgrounds. But when he’s on the court, the rink, or the field, none of that matters. In those moments, Beau isn’t a patient—he’s an athlete. He’s a teammate. He’s a competitor. He’s himself.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Beau may only be five, but his heart is full of heroes. At the top of his list is his dad, who was the goalie for Team Canada and now owns a hockey arena. To Beau, his dad isn’t just someone who played for the country—he’s the one who taught him how to love the game. Watching his dad on the ice, seeing how much he cares about the sport, and knowing that he gets to play in the same rink his dad runs—that’s magic. Beau wants to be just like him: brave, skilled, and full of heart.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Beau was pushed out of his wheelchair and had immense fear going back into it not feeling safe, his teammates encouraged him and he scored his first basket!
