Ben loves being part of something big...His team. He is the last and main line of defence on the ice. Ben has to be the wall for his team to succeed. The focus and determination has to be on point each and every time. He gets to be active and not be in front of a screen. When he’s on the ice, he feels like he’s home. He’s surrounded by the sound of the ice being scraped by the skates cutting edges. The echo when a puck connects to the crossbar. A crowd cheering at him for stopping the puck.
Ben is deeply inspired by Mason Beaupit, a SPHL (FAY) goalie. Along with Tyler Roy another SPHL (RNK) goalie. They have both trained Ben personally. They have pushed him to extraordinary limits and have impacted his goalkeeping skills for the better. Ben is always talking about how he aspires to be like them but in the NHL capacity. Beaupit and Roy have shown Ben that it takes motivation and dedication day in and day out on the ice to climb the ladder. He will always look up to them.
The day when Ben first dressed as goalie for a home practice. It’s forever ingrained in my memory. He had been talking nonstop about wanting to be a goalie. When he got his first chance at it, I knew he was locked in. Wife and I? We were locked in financially. Goalie parents alike, know what I’m talking about! The way Ben was on the ice, made it seem as if he had been playing goalie all his life. In reality, it was only his first time playing the position. I’m so proud of him.
