What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Benny loves playing baseball and of course winning. He is a leader to his teammates and is a role model for the younger kids. He would play baseball all year long if our weather would allow. He is a proud of his pitching capabilities, his fielding skills and his batting average.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Benny looks to his family for support on and off the field. His Grandpa Larry’s determination and dedication to baseball has inspired him from the start. He looks up to his older brothers for guidance and support. On the field, he has had amazing coaches that have given him the confidence and opportunity to be a stand out player. His father has a debilitating disease, that affects us daily. So, support from our family and community has allowed Benny to continue to follow his dreams.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Benny has worked so hard over the years and the moments are many that make me proud. The one that stands out recently of course was his home run but the parent of another teammate came up to me and shared a story. He said his boy was nervous to play with the older kids for their All-Star season but met Benny and felt welcomed. Benny gave this kiddo the confidence and acceptance he needed. My heart melted and It was a moment I will never forget.
