Ever since he was small, he has loved playing catcher. Starting out this is where most coaches put their “worst” player, but he seized the opportunity and thrived. He loves being behind the plate and being able to be looked at as a leader on the team. He has an ability to connect with his pitchers and get them out of their head when they are struggling, but most of all he lives for that throw to home with a runner on third barreling down the line to get the out for his team.
His dad has shown him what it means to preserve when life hands you disappointments and failures. He has seen first hand how things do not always go as planned, but those moments are not defined by how hard you fell, but rather by how you rise from the dirt and hold your head high to keep going.
The proudest I am is when he has continued to fight for what he wants. He has been last in the batting order, lost his spot and made to play other positions he didn’t want, suffered through coaches not believing in him, but through that all he has not lost his love of the game. Even in those moments he has supported his teammates and celebrates their victories. He may not become a professional or even college ball player, but he shows the character of what it means to be a good man one day.
