What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Braylin finds it rewarding to see his hard work pay off on the court and field. He also likes to see younger kids look up to him as an athlete and human; often times he will do drills with younger kids who are in the gym at the same time as us. He also helps with local youth sports camps. Because of playing so many sports from a very young age Braylin enjoys making everything competitive. He says one of the best parts of playing sports is building relationships with other kids from other towns.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

The first person Braylin listed was me, “my mom- she is a hard worker and puts other people before herself”, it is hard for me to write about myself. Basketball specifically has been a passion of mine and I have passed that passion onto him. We spend most of our free time working on skill development together. Next, Braylin is inspired by Giannis because he didn’t come from a picture perfect family. Giannis had to work to achieve everything he has so far and doesn’t take things for granted.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

As his mom, I’m always proud of Braylin, but especially his dedication and willingness to make sacrifices. Playing for an out-of-state team means missing out on quality time with friends at home. Additionally, he’s incredibly level-headed and selfless. One example is the time he tried to help an opponent score by physically lifting him to get closer to the basket. He’s also excelling playing a grade higher on his AAU team, building a name and future for himself. All are reasons to be proud.
