Caleb enjoys hockey because it is a thrilling, fast-paced game with hardly a dull moment. The physical battles along the boards and hard-fought puck possessions showcase the determination. Hockey is also the ultimate team sport. Success depends on players working seamlessly together.
Coach Del Monte is patient, smart, and endlessly encouraging; he has a way of making every player feel seen. While other coaches obsessed over stats, Coach Del Monte noticed the little things: the extra reps after practice, the unselfish passes, the grit behind the mistakes. For Caleb, that trust was everything.
Two minutes left in the playoff quarterfinal, tied 1-1 against the league’s top team. Then, a whistle blew: penalty shot. Parents roared for both sides. The opposing goalie—the best in the league—locked eyes with him, but Caleb was ice-cold. A deep breath. Then—move. With a flick of his wrists, he feigned left, dragged right, and sent the goalie sprawling. The net bulged. Goal. In that heartbeat, under the screaming lights, Caleb didn’t just win the game—he sent them to the finals.
