He says he loves the friends he plays with, loves getting new kids to try sports, loves seeing kids grow in the game, and loves the feeling of trying to always get better. He said winning is also really fun. Tournaments are his favorite.
He’s inspired by people in our family. Mom, Uncle, Cousins, and Grandfather all competed in many sports and pushed themselves to always make the teams, be supportive of all players, have good sportsmanship, and be coachable. Our family regularly plays sports together. He also likes to read and watch movies about professional athletes who overcame adversity and found success when others didn’t think they would. He wants to have that drive, so he plays all his sports as often as he can.
Recently he had a fantastic game, he made great plays, had great at bats, pitched well. On the way home, he could not WAIT to brag, not about himself, but about a peer who was new to the sport. He listed all the moments of success that child had. Never mentioned his own. Grandma called to ask how it went, he listed the success of that peer and great moments other peers had too. Athletic talent is great, but being kind, coachable, & supportive of teammates matters most to me.
