What Chase loves most about playing baseball is the opportunity to be a part of a team. Being a part of a team has taught him trust, collaboration, and communication. Baseball has taught him discipline and emotional growth on and off the field. He has also built relationships and provided support to others. Being part of a team has also aided him in setting realistic goals for himself in the game and his life. Teamwork is molding him into a productive citizen and leader that I know he can be.
The person who inspires Chase is Michael Harris of the Atlanta Braves. They have similar backgrounds in that they are both from Atlanta and started their baseball careers out of the same park. They possess similar work ethics and resilience that stand out from others. Watching Michael’s career has made Chase want to improve his game and make adjustments for growth. Following him allows Chase to see that as an African American man in this sport he can still obtain success.
One moment that made me the proudest, would have to be his performance at a National Showcase. He spent months working out and practicing with hopes of reaching a personal best goal. When the time came to perform, he not only reached his goal he surpassed it. The excitement in his voice and watching others rejoice with him made me so proud. My son had the determination and discipline to work towards a goal and reach it. It was at that moment I knew he was destined for greatness.
