He loves the competition, teamwork, and the challenges that sports bring him. Sports has shaped his confidence, taught him discipline and resilience, formed forever friendships, and has also taught him the ability to perform under pressure. It is more then a game, it has become part of his life and who he is. Some of his closest friendships have come from his team mates and some of his proudest moments have happened on the field.
My wife and I have always been in his corner , showing up, encouraging him, and always pushing him to be his best. He sees the work we put into our family and he says it motivates him. As far as professional athletes, he looks up to Steph Curry for his work ethic and humility. He also looks up to Bryce Harper for his intensity and passion for the game. They both represent the kind of athlete and person he aspires to be.
This came during his 13u spring travel season. After a tough loss, and playing on a team that struggled fundamentally, we expected him to frustrated like he always was.But when I asked how he felt, he said, “It’s not about winning anymore. Losing shows me what I need to work on.” That was when I saw real growth. He turned disappointment into perspective and showed maturity. That mindset shift made my wife and I prouder than any win ever could.
