My son loves soccer because it brings out the best of both his fun-loving and competitive sides. At 10 years old, he thrives on the excitement of the game—the fast pace, the challenge of outplaying his opponent, and the joy of scoring or making a great pass. He’s definitely competitive, but what makes me proud is how he balances that with true sportsmanship. Whether he wins or loses, he respects the game, his teammates, and his opponents. For him, soccer is more than just a sport.
My son is inspired by people who lead by example—on and off the field. One of his biggest inspirations is his Coach because of how they stay calm under pressure, work hard every day, and never give up. He admires not just the skills his Coach shows on the field, but the attitude they carry beyond it—kindness, respect, and determination. Watching him reminds him that being great at soccer isn’t just about talent; it’s about effort, and character.
One of the moments I’m most proud of in my son’s soccer journey wasn’t about a goal he scored or a game he won—it was about his character. During one match, the competition got intense and he lost his cool after a tough play. You could see the frustration on his face, and he reacted in a way that wasn’t like him. But what happened next is what truly made me proud: without anyone prompting him, he took a moment, calmed himself down, and walked over to apologize to the other player.
