Thank you for generously supporting Cruz in this year’s competition. Your support helps empower the V Foundation for Cancer Research and the Why Not You Foundation in their respective missions to save lives and empower today's youth to become tomorrow's leaders.
Cruz loves to be coached...even if it is tough love at times. He listens to everything he is told and said he loves when the coaches help him and talk to him. He also loves being around his friends and having fun while playing the sport they love.
Cruz has an older brother headed to Clemson for football. Sometimes people think Cruz puts added pressure on himself because of his brothers successes, but the reality is that he loves his brother so much he wants to perform well for him, not be just like him. Cruz recognizes he is his own athlete; his brother inspires him through example, work ethic, and encouragement.
Cruz was the youngest kid in Little League team last year having just turned 10 (league age up to 12). Area teams, roughly 20, play in a mid year tournament, the Les Ghiz. No Huntington team had won this tournament in 20 years. Cruz stepped up in the bottom of the 6th with two outs, one runner on, down by two. He took it to a 2-2 count then smacked the ball to the fence for an in the park home run. His team went on to win in extra innings.
