Cruz is the athlete of the year because @ 7yrs old he constantly works to get better while encouraging others to do the same.

Cruz says that he love playing and competing with his friends. He says that no matter what the outcome he loves being a part of a team and competing at the highest level. It’s the challenge of sports and the love to practice to make him better.
Cruz is an extremely coachable player and is consistently working to get better. He says watching his favorite baseball player Elly De La Cruz or his favorite football player Joe Burrow. But the doubters motivate him most.
Cruz has always played up in baseball since he was 5. He was always told he’s too young, too small, can’t catch, parents would say I don’t know why there is a 6yr old on our 8U team. But he stuck it out and put in the work. And this year as a 7yr old after hitting his first actual home run and the look on his face said it all. After the game was over he came and gave me his HR ball and said, I did it dad! They can’t say that stuff anymore about me…..I did it!
