You decide who will be named Youth Athlete of the Year, featured in a 3BRAND ad in Sports Illustrated, and take home $25,000
He loves competitiveness. He’s found how to love the hard work it takes to get better. The practices, the extra drills, the time invested to get better….all of it. It’s not only the friendships he’s built being an athlete, it’s what’s he’s done for us as parents as well. Because of him us as parents have built amazing friendships as well. Our sports family is quite large and getting bigger. It’s truly amazing.
Derek’s has athletes he follows. Steph Curry. Anthony Edwards. Patrick Mahomes. Justin Jefferson. CeeDee Lamb. Joe Burrow. Mookie Betts……etc. As well as greats like Kobe. His biggest competition or inspiration is me. His dad. He’s always in competition with me or says he wants to be like me……..in reality, he’s already 10x the athlete I was at his age and even a better person. I love the athlete he is but nothing compares to his character and heart.
He asked me if he could give some cleats, gloves, backpack, and football he didn’t use anymore to a kids who’s parents can’t afford anything extra besides the registration fee because “he’s good and all he needs is some better stuff and a ball to practice with.” I hope Derek understands one day how proud I am of the person he is and the heart he has that’s full of empathy and love.
