You decide who will be named Youth Athlete of the Year, featured in a 3BRAND ad in Sports Illustrated, and take home $25,000
Running is what she loves most about this sport. When she isn’t running track, she’s running at recess in school, running at the Boys Club, racing neighbours and even myself, her mother. That girl just LOVES to run. When she gets on that starting line the adrenaline rush and excitement of beating the girl in the lane next to her is a huge motivation.
My daughter’s biggest inspiration is Sha’Carri Richardson. When she off the track she sits at home watching her races on YouTube. For her school “My Hero” project, she chose to write about Sha’Carri. Egypt says, just like herself, Sha’Carri also competed in her first race at 9 years old. She also beat all the odds against her to become the Olympic champion she is today!
As I stated above Egypt was a victim of a road rage shooting that made news headlines in July of 2024. She was shot twice in the same leg in two different areas, her shin and thigh. Despite her circumstances, she came back less than one year later and ran some her best races to qualify in each event for the 2025 Junior Olympics. Going into the Olympics she is the 6th best 9 year old girl in the country at the 400m race. I am so proud of how she didn’t let tragedy slow her down!
