What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Emeri is a two-sport athlete-basketball & football. Emeri began playing basketball at an early age. She soon fell in love with dribbling the ball & making shots. But Emeri also loves being a part of a team & values the bond with her teammates. In 4th & 5th grade Emeri began playing football at recess with all the boys. She was the only girl. In 6th grade, Emeri played flag football with boys & loved the action! She scored the most TDs on the team & was happy to lead her team to the big game!

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Emeri has two people that inspire her both on & off the field. First, her dad, who played Division I college basketball. Emeri wants to play basketball in college and her dad helps to guide her with her skill set and training. He was a point guard as well & is showing her the way. Emeri's Grandfather also inspires her because he was drafted in the 1970 NFL draft before big time contracts. He paved the way for many Black athletes that play today & for Emeri as well. It is bigger than sports.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Emeri's growth on and off the court makes us proud. She started out not being able to run a full mile completely to now running a 9-minute mile over one summer. Her growing skill set with being able to dribble with both hands equally & go both left & right at a young age. Emeri has also grown as a team leader & developed great maturity as a young player on a 14U team. She makes us proud every time she steps on the court. More important than skill is her willingness to work hard & her big heart!
