Emerson loves the camaraderie, the display of good sportsmanship, and simply having fun while playing softball. She loves being “in on every play,” leading her team from behind the plate, and having the responsibility of calling the game. The sound of the bat, the dirt under her cleats, and the feeling of being on the field bring her joy and peace.
Emerson’s hitting instructor, Pat O’Malley, has inspired her on and off the field. While he helped her grow tremendously as a hitter on the field, it’s the impact he’s made off the field that’s been even more powerful. Pat has played a huge role in building Emerson‘s confidence and self-esteem, always encouraging her to believe in herself, even during tough moments. Thanks to Pat, Emerson isn’t just becoming a stronger athlete - she’s becoming a stronger person.
Near the end of the season, Emerson, who plays on a 10U team, was asked to step in as a catcher for a 12U team that had been on a losing streak. Even knowing the challenges they were facing, she didn’t hesitate; she stepped up so the team could compete. Her performance and willingness to take on that responsibility earned her recognition not only from her coaches and teammates, but also contributed to her being nominated to play in an All-American Game.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Youth Athlete of the Year, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
