What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Emery said "I love the competition". The hard work, the battle to the finish, the grit it takes to win. A whole team needs to work together to succeed. It's never about one player. Competing to win, learning from the losses, growing as a team - that is what is the BEST thing about sports. You become confident by winning, but you become better by competing and losing against those that are better than you. Show them what you are made of. Practice hard, love the battle, build strength and win.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

My coaches, my teammates, my parents. My coaches push me to be better and focus on the small details that lead to big improvements. My teammates pull me through the tough situations, and celebrate the successes. They encourage me and have become my family. My parents are the reason I get there; the reason I keep trying. They tell me that I am capable, strong and ready for whatever comes my way. They pick me up when I am doubting myself, and they help me become better on & off the field.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Emery isn't the largest on the field, but she is determined & compassionate. Being a multi-sport athlete, one moment is tough. She was hand selected by the Int. Center for Development in Canada for her basketball skills at Provincials. She was MVP for her shut out pitching in a fastpitch tournament. She is a provincial gymnast. But when she fights so hard for the ball that she knocks a girl down, helps her up and says "you are playing a great game". That's sportsmanship, that's respect!
