You decide who will be named Youth Athlete of the Year, featured in a 3BRAND ad in Sports Illustrated, and take home $25,000
Emily loves the outlet to compete. For golf, it’s a matter of improving on skills and accomplishing better results with practice. It’s also about overcoming obstacles like having to take two years off to heal from her bone marrow transplant. For baton twirling, it’s a matter of setting goals and then working like mad to accomplish them. The icing on the cake is getting to the competitions and being mentally ready to compete on a whole new level. Mental work is just as important.
God and her own foundation followers. Emily chose to give back after her battle with cancer. She has a walking program she sponsors at Duke Hospital that encourages other cancer fighting kids to walk for prizes to encourage them to keep fit while fighting. They are her inspiration.
All of them but particularly I’m most proud of her perseverance. In today’s sports, kids start their sport at young ages and they work diligently at them for years. Emily had to take two years off but she never allows that battle with cancer to be an excuse. She pushes past to still compete as if she never had cancer. I’m proud of her for excelling in two sports at that!
