Thank you for generously supporting Flora in this year’s competition. Your support helps empower the V Foundation for Cancer Research and the Why Not You Foundation in their respective missions to save lives and empower today's youth to become tomorrow's leaders.
Flora loves the discipline and hard work that goes along with competitive dance. She pushes herself to reach new levels and goals. She also loves the team aspect of dance. She has been voted as "kindest heart," "most likely to help a Teammate," and "Hardest working" by her teammates over the last three years.
Sydney Mesher is one person who inspires Flora because she is the first Rockette with a visible disability and she refuses to let the fact that she is missing a hand stop her from being an accomplished dancer. Karen Calloway Williams is another dancer who inspires Flora for her work with Riverdance and on Broadway. Flora had the opportunity to train with Ms. Williams last year and it was a huge highlight for her.
It is difficult to pick just one. Every time Flora includes someone who is being left out, tells a dancer from another team how they rocked it on stage, or when she keeps trying and working when many others would have given up, I feel so proud of her. Her very first year of competitive dance, she was going through the diagnostic process for epilepsy. She kept her commitments to her team and showed up with a smile and determination, even straight from appointments and tests on several occasions.
