What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Hayden loves his sport because it allows him to share his passion for karate & help others develop that same excitement. He enjoys every aspect of martial arts — from the discipline of kata, to the challenge of sparring, to the precision of weapons training. Self-defense is a key part, and he takes pride in teaching practical techniques that help others stay safe in everyday situations. Martial arts has built Hayden’s confidence, especially in leading and speaking in front others.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Hayden is inspired by his instructors both in and out of the karate studio. His head Sensei, a retired Air Force Colonel, shares expert karate training from Okinawa and valuable life lessons from his military experience. Each of his instructors have been key mentors in his growth in martial arts and personal life. Outside of karate, Hayden plays electric guitar on his church’s Worship Team, where the Worship Pastor mentors him in music, leadership, and personal growth.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

As a parent, there have been many proud moments during Hayden's life. Most recently, Hayden was selected to represent Team USA at the World Martial Arts Games in Norway this November — an incredible honor and proud milestone in his journey. For Hayden, karate is more than just a sport — it’s a way to grow, give back, and keep challenging himself.
