He believes that all progress deserves celebration and that each setback presents an opportunity for learning. In addition to his time on the pool Ian is a champion for inclusion and shown by his dedication to Unified and Special Olympic athletics. He has a strong desire to lift others up and helps make his school and community better.
I believe Ian is inspired by his coach and his teammates. He takes qualities from each of these individuals and implements them to improve not only as a swimmer, but as a teammate. His unified partners also prove inspiring to Ian. He looks at their courage, dedication, and spirit and pushes himself to embody their qualities.
I am always proud of Ian. He has a great outlook on his swimming and participation in sports. He takes every race or game as an opportunity to learn. However, what makes me most proud of Ian is his support and dedication to his Unified and Special Olympic teams. He truly loves having the opportunity to help others meet goals and have experiences that allow them to be in the spotlight. Ian is not just racing for recognition, but he is racing for meaning… that is what makes him unique.
