Ily loves figure skating and competing in showcase, for its blend of artistic creativity and athleticism. The theatrical elements of showcase, including props and costumes, enable her to express herself. Figure skating has been a positive outlet during her journey of overcoming and healing from the TBI, inspiring her to want to one day pursue careers as a choreographer and neuro kinesiologist.
Scott Hamilton profoundly inspires Ily. His Olympic gold, despite health battles, shows incredible resilience. His tenacity proved to her that challenges don't limit great achievements. From his books to working with him, Scott helped Ily reframe her TBI struggles, empowering her by showing purpose in adversity. His ability to transform hardship into positive impact is truly inspiring; she's raised over $17,000 for the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation because of it.
Ily volunteers at the summer camp that started her figure skating journey and this year she founded the Inspire on Ice scholarship (funded with award money) to gift a child the opportunity to participate in the summer camp. The moment that makes me the proudest is when she made it possible (with her Inspire on Ice scholarship) for a young girl, whose brother is suffering from a serious chronic illness, to participate in the skate camp when the little girl otherwise wouldn't have been able to.
