Iyla is a different kind of competitor, works tirelessly on/off the field. Loves the “win”, but loves being part of something bigger.

What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Being part of something bigger than herself. The camaraderie of being on a team, the authenticity of when she is playing lacrosse , nothing else matters. Iyla feels the most herself when she is playing lacrosse. It is a safe space where she can be her true self and escape the stresses of everyday teen life.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Her coach - Kara Koolage! Madison Taylor (Northwestern), Jamie Ortega (UNC), and Rachel Clark (Boston College because of overall scoring capabilities and offensive impact on their teams!

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

3 years into Iyla’s lax career she got into a golf cart accident leaving her with multiple broken bones and surgeries. She could not play lacrosse for over a year. This emotionally crippled her spirit . While recovering - we often looked back at lacrosse photos of herself playing , it was one of the few things that kept her spirit up. When she was able she got right back to playing. Her accident may have set her skills back but it brought out her grit. Nothing will stop this girl!
