Izzy is inspired by USA Paralympians Susannah Scaroni and Cheri Madsen. Both have been so supportive and helpful to Izzy on her journey. They have also paved the way for younger racers in this sport and continue to give back, encourage, teach, and cheer on the next generation on a regular basis. Izzy is also inspired by her Texas Parasport teammates because of their dedication to the sport.
In Izzy's first international competition in Mexico, she beat a seasoned Mexican Paralympian to win the gold in the 5000m race (with a huge PR) qualifying her for the USA Track & Field National Championships. This was after her first season of high school track where she often raced alone (no other wheelchair racers in our district) on tracks less suited for wheelchair racers. She was beginning to think she might be sliding backwards instead of making progress. This was a huge confidence boost.
