Join the CompetitionShe loves the competition, the challenge. It brings out another side of her. The competitive side. She’s as shy as they come, but on the field she’s a little BEAST! Fears nothing. At 14 years old going up against 18 y/o’s . It’s an adrenaline rush for her to try & get the older girl out. All this & she just learned the game at the age of 12. She gets to travel to other states & invited to workouts with college coaches. Most kids dread practice, but not her. She’s up & ready to learn more.
Karlyn Pickens, because she always has great energy, is a team player, and is committed to keeping her spot as a pitcher. She knows pitching isn’t easy physically or mentally, but she aspires to be better. Always room for improvement and guidance. Got to speak with her at the Mary Nutter classic!
What mostly stands out is when we went to a Benedictine college camp & she was going up against girls ready to commit at the college level but she was the only 8th grader there. She struck out quite a few girls who were obviously way bigger than her & more experienced. Her demeanor never changed. She was locked in. She had one goal & that was to stand out. & she did just that. She hit 3 doubles, and had 6 rbis. Coach was baffled she was only in 8th grade. They still remain in contact!
