After being told she won't be able to play sports because of her diagnosis, she continued to push herself everyday to not only prove them wrong but exceed all expectations by becoming the national champion and international competitor she is today.
One of the first nurses that I met when I was diagnosed. He told me that every kid is told they can be whatever they want when they grow up. And that I can too, but Im going to have to work twice as hard to get what I want. He told me diabetes won't control my life, unless I let it. So I took control of my own life, and I became the athlete I knew I could be. I still talk to him when I need help
I tested, and received my 1st degree blackbelt in March. I then flew across the country and competed in the national championships, gaining a national champion title and qualifying myself for the national team selections. I made team canada at 16years old, just 2 months after my blackbelt test, while living with type one diabetes.
