What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Josh loves the mental and physical challenges of gymnastics. He enjoys trying different complex skills and achieving them. The discipline, focus, strength and time commitment it takes to be a great gymnast gives him a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Being among his dedicated teammates, cheering each other on and motivating each other to excel gives him a sense of pride. Josh loves the excitement of competing and hitting his routines. It makes all of his hard work totally worth it.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

If you asked Josh, I’m pretty sure he would say his parents inspires him. My husband and I served in the military for a combined 55 years. Josh knows the sacrifices military families make such as deployments, relocations and leaving friends and family behind. I know Josh carries these life lessons with him in the way he trains, his commitment and support for his team, his discipline and the way he supports others.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

After winning State, Regionals, placing in the top 10 in the nation and qualifying for Championships, Josh had an injury that required surgery. A week after surgery, Josh got up and still went to his 4 hr practice every day. Although, he could not physically train, he focused on working with and encouraging his team mates to help them hit new skills. During this time, it not only showed his love for gymnastics but also his leadership, character and the true meaning of being an elite athlete.
