Juan just loves the game. He loves being out on the field and feeling the energy of the crowd. He loves being part of a team and building friendships. He loves improving his skills and seeing his hard work pay off. Whether it’s hitting, running the bases, or playing catch. He always has a smile when he’s on the field. One of his favorite moments is hearing the cheers when he hits a home run or makes a great catch, those moments really light him up.
His dad inspires him both on and off the field because of the values he's instilled in him: never give up, always compete with class, and carry yourself with respect. His dad taught him that there are no days off, if you want something you have to earn it through hard work and consistency. He shows him what sacrifice and commitment really look like, and he supports him in everything he does. His example pushes him to stay focused, stay humble, and give his best every time he steps on the field.
One moment that made me the proudest was when my son played his first game as catcher and caught a foul ball for an out. The hitter was clearly disappointed, but instead of celebrating in his face, my son told him, "Good job, keep your head up, you've got it next time." That moment showed me his heart. He wasn't just focused on the win, he showed real sportsmanship, maturity, and respect for the game and his opponent.
