What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Kai loves the structured and disciplined aspects of martial arts. In practice, he’s all business and loves the hard work culture instilled in classes. His confidence has grown tremendously through the milestones he has accumulated in martial arts over the years, whether through belt promotions or competitive achievements. Kai has also developed several healthy coping skills to deal with his, once newly found, emotions after wins and losses, which are highly transferable to life off the mats.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

In addition to MMA fighters, such as Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko, Kai finds inspiration in his Senseis. He has been fortunate to have several role models at his dojo who have guided him through the peaks and valleys he has faced in his journey. Kai appreciates the balance between expectations of hard work and the support given when facing obstacles. He also appreciates his sensei’s guidance in overcoming obstacles on the mats and translating the skills learned into daily life.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

After eight years of training and a path filled with wins and losses, our proudest moment came after Kai’s first double gold victory at Brave Jiu-Jitsu. He was able to break through and achieve the top of the podium twice after winning five matches all by submission. Also, despite his outstanding performance, his sportsmanship and humble attitude were just as impressive.
