What I love most about basketball is working together as a team to achieve the same goal. I also love hearing the crowd cheer and just being on the court, continually growing together. I love that there’s always room for growth and development. I’m constantly adding new skills to my bag so the game never gets old and I don’t get stagnant.
I’m inspired by Allen Iverson. He faced so much adversity before college, but he stuck with the game and overcame the struggles. I can relate to Iverson because he’s considered a shorter guard like me, but he still revolutionized basketball with his IQ and superior handles.
One of my proudest moments was when Kai could have taken a game-winning shot in an important game, but passed it to a teammate for a corner three. It sounds basic, but the teammate he passed it to was a kid who had been going through so much and was in a slump. He made the 3 and won the game. The crowd cheered. When I asked Kai why he made that decision, he told me “sometimes people just need to know you believe in them to remember to believe in themselves.”
