Kody

At age 8 Kody was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, but it did not affect his love to play hockey. His adaptation is admirable.

What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Kody loves being pushed to be a better player by his coaches. He is eager to improve and grow as a player. He has loved hockey ever since he participated in a “Learn to Play Hockey” event sponsored by Hockey Club Fairbanks. Kody loves the fast play and energy of the sport.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

The coaches inspire Kody because they are helpful and they talk to the players about the game and give advice.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Kody makes me proud every day on and off the rink. There was one situation where Kody had to sit on the bench for half a game for a penalty in the game prior. He did not complain or fuss, but sat and took his penalty. When his time was up he not only scored 3 goals he helped his team come from behind and win the game. I was so proud of his ability to handle the situation.
