Throwing the discus is a family event in our house. Due to Lilly’s diseases, physical activity can be difficult (there are times she is wheelchair bound). Throwing the discus gives her a goal and something to look forward to. She works hard to do what others take for granted so when she is doing well enough and allowed to participate, she savors every moment.
Lilly’s big sister, Ellie, is her greatest inspiration. Ellie is an elite discus thrower and loves to teach Lilly all she knows! Ellie is always there for Lilly through all her treatments, surgeries, procedures, and hospitalizations. There is not closer bond between siblings!
Lilly has Juvenile Arthritis in over 20 places in her body. After being diagnosed with her progressive lung disease this winter, she struggled just to stand. Lilly began receiving treatments & worked hard in physical therapy/breathing therapy. At first, doctors thought she would be lucky if Lilly could participate one last meet to have closure at the sport she loves so much. With her hard work & resilience, she ended up participating all season & went UNDEFEATED during the regular season!
