What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Lucas loves the challenge of improving and becoming a better version of himself every day. Each sport provides him an opportunity to continually improve & challenges him to become both physically and mentally stronger. He loves finding opportunities to lead his team and also finds heart in distributing opportunities to others in order to be successful as a team. The brotherhood and sisterhood that comes from sports provides a unique set of friendships that serve him both on and off the field.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Lucas is inspired by others who work hard at being a good person first and an athlete second. Our family host college wood bat baseball players and the young men who have come into our home for summers have been his inspiration. One in particular was once a stranger four years ago, is now his coach and this past weekend Lucas stood by his side at his wedding. Fifteen years apart in age, but forever connected by the sport of baseball first!

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

My most proud moment was when our son came to us and said, mom, coach (we won’t us names) said what’s your goal? Lucas responded with, I want to be an MLB gold glove awardee . The coach said, let’s be realistic. Lucas said, mom I want to play for someone who believes in me. Lucas quit his private trainings the next week and worked harder than anyone I have ever known at improving. He set out to prove he believed in himself, even if someone else didn’t.
