Lydia is setting goals and crushing them. Hands down, she truly loves the sport of wrestling, whether she is winning or learning.

What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Lydia enjoys the discipline and structure of the sport. She is conscientious about nutrition and hydration. She is a year round wrestler who went from folk style for 2 years, coming back from two serious injuries and is back in the mat and is taking names in the freestyle circuit. She loves meeting new wrestlers & coaches from all over who share her same passion. Lydia tells everyone “I love to throw people and pin them.” As a girl wrestler, she has learned to be mentally tough through mindset.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Lydia is inspired by Kennedy Blades and Amit Elor as they both exude a positive vibe supporting other female wrestlers. Lydia looks up to her many coaches from school to clubs and travel teams. She also looks up to the older local female wrestlers in our area who take the time to mentor her. Lydia has a wall in her room dedicated to photos of inspiring wrestlers, autographs, positive quotes, & goals that she adds to often, keeping her positive mindset and growth in character and the sport.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Wrestling for 3 years has had many ups and downs. She’s not always on top of the podium and has struggled with mindset when wrestling someone that has outwrestled her in the past, mentally giving up on the match before she stepped foot on the mat. This summer, Lydia has worked hard on conquering this challenge. At one tournament, she was defeated by a wrestler only to come back and wrestler her again, and win! She also went up against a girl who has beaten her twice, and won that match as well!
