Mackey is passionate about jiu-jitsu, it has become a meaningful part of his life. What he loves most isn’t just the physical challenge, but the values and qualities of what it means to be a true sportsman. Mackey takes pride in exemplifying grace on and off the mat, showing respect to all opponents. He carries himself with humility in both victory and defeat. Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Coach Jeff at Gracie Barra is who inspires Mackey. Jeff exemplifies discipline, resilience, and heart. Mackey looks up to Jeff as he pushed through life’s hardships with unwavering determination, serving as a powerful role model for young athletes. Jeff focus is building strong character,not just skill, he guides his students on a positive path, instilling values of respect, courage, and perseverance. Jeff’s impact goes far beyond the mat—he’s a mentor, motivator, and true example of leadership.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

My proudest moment of Mackey was when he returned from the Canadian Nationals after representing Ottawa. Despite injuries and self-doubt, he never gave up. As the underdog, he defeated a world-class athlete and former national titleholder. That victory for Mackey was a major turning point, showing him that with hardwork, determination and self-belief, he could achieve anything he set his mind to.
