What I love most about playing sports is being part of a team. It feels good to know that people have your back, and you get to cheer each other on no matter what. Some of my closest friends came from playing together, and we’ve built memories I’ll never forget.
My dad is my hero. After we lost my mom, he stayed strong for me and my two siblings and kept us together. He encourages me to chase my dreams and reminds me how proud she would be. I carry that with me in everything I do, on and off the field. He always believes in me, even when I don’t believe in myself. Whether he’s cheering from the sidelines or helping me practice at home, he’s always there. I want to work hard because I know he’s proud of me.
In the 2024 final match, the game was tied and Maria’s coach trusted her with the final shot. It was her first basketball season, and while it seemed like a lot to ask, her coach clearly saw the same drive and resilience we all know she has. That moment showed Maria she could rise to any challenge. It confirmed what I’ve always told her: she’s capable of more than she realizes, and her strength shines brightest under pressure.
