What Matthew loves most about playing sports is that it’s more than just a game—it’s about building character, pushing himself to always improve, and growing through every challenge. For him, the true win comes from the friendships he builds along the way and the lessons learned both on and off the field.
When I asked Matthew who inspires him, whether he’s on or off the field, he didn’t hesitate—he said, “You and Dad.” He shared that no matter how tired you both are, you’re always there for him, cheering him on, supporting him, and showing up in every way that matters. Win or lose, he knows he can count on you, and that kind of love and support is what motivates him to keep going and give it his all.
One moment in Matthew’s athletic journey that made me incredibly proud was when he started playing travel ball. He wasn’t the strongest player at first and spent a lot of time on the bench. I knew it was hard on him, and I could see it brought him down at times—but what stood out to me was that he never gave up. Instead of quitting, he pushed himself to get better.
