What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Jiu-jitsu has been life-changing for Maximus and our family. After losing our son Jordan, who was almost eight, Maximus—then six—continued training as a form of therapy. Since then, he has excelled, now ranked among the top 100 in the world at just nine years old. Jiu-jitsu has taught him discipline, self-respect, gratitude, and perseverance. The friendships and support he’s gained are priceless, and watching his growth has brought healing and strength to our family.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Maximus draws inspiration from his late brother Jordan, who now watches over him from heaven, from his brother Zyon, whose basketball skills he deeply admires, and from his older brother Lance, who served in the military during challenging times. I also take pride in inspiring him as a Purple Heart veteran, staying active, and supporting him through all his pursuits—whether it’s jiu-jitsu, wrestling, or basketball—while encouraging him to strive for greatness.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

After our son Jordan’s passing on November 22, 2022, Maximus continued his jiu-jitsu training with unwavering dedication. Competing at the Arnold Classic, he earned second place, carrying a heavy heart, mind, and soul. His perseverance through such pain reveals not only his remarkable resilience but also the strength and character he is developing—shaping him into the incredible person and athlete he is destined to become.
