Basketball is Mofe’s happy place. He says holding the ball feels like a superpower. He just wants to keep going. He thrives on the competition and, the excitement that comes with the game. Every win brings him closer to his dreams, and every loss pushes him to practice harder and grow stronger.
Mofe draws inspiration from a quote by Kobe Bryant: “Great things come from hard work and perseverance. Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.” He truly believes that his dream of one day playing in the NBA can only be achieved through relentless effort and 100% dedication — no excuses.
One of my proudest mom moments was during Mofe’s 7th grade championship game. Some other parents were asking if #15 was really in 7th grade or if he had been re-classed — he was playing that well. I smiled and quietly said, “#15 is mine, and yes, he’s 13 years old.” Then I joked, “Would you like to see his birth certificate?” We all laughed and enjoyed the rest of the game. Mofe scored 28 of the team’s 36 points, leading them to win the 7th grade district championship.
